New flights to Limón seek to drive up tourism

Starting in July, Sansa Airlines will offer regular flights from San José to Limón as part of a plan to increase the flow of tourists into the Caribbean province, according to a press release issued by the Presidency Ministry.

Sansa plans to offer at least four flights a week. The price of tickets will range from $60 to $150.

The Costa Rican Tourism Board, Limón’s Chamber of Industry and Commerce and Norma Christy, director of the Limón airport took part in the negotiations that led to the new route, according to the daily La Nación.

The flights are part of the bigger Limón Port City project, a $72.5 million government initiative that seeks to improve the image of the oft-maligned province by developing small businesses and increasing employment as a way to fight poverty (TT, June 12, 2009).
