Bus driver caught smuggling $30,000 in his tennis shoes

Drug Control Police announced Friday the arrest of a Costa Rican bus driver caught smuggling more than $65,000 in cash into the country at Paso Canoas, at the border with Panama.

Police found $30,000 in cash stuffed into a pair of tennis shoes and another $33,900 in the 45-year-old driver’s suitcase.

Authorities found $65,736 and ₡122,000 – roughly $240 – in the suitcase, tennis shoes and other places on board the bus.
