More Than 150 Hondurans Died en Route to U.S.

TEGUCIGALPA (EFE) – The number of Honduran emigrants run over and killed by trains in Mexico while trying to reach the United States last year stands at 158, authorities said here Tuesday.

Twenty-four other Hondurans lost limbs in train accidents, according to foreign ministry official Francisco Martinez, who said the comparable figures for 2004 were 151 killed and 116 seriously injured.

Most of the mishaps occur as emigrants try to hitch rides aboard moving freight trains.
