Honduran Police Rescue Kidnapped Son of Banker

TEGUCIGALPA – Police rescued the kidnapped son of a Honduran Central Bank official in the southern city of Choluteca over the weekend, a police spokesman said.

Allan Guillermo Funes, 28, was abducted July 6 and rescued a day later by police, according to a Tegucigalpa police spokesman, who said the kidnappers had demanded a substantial ransom from the victim’s family.

Funes is the son of María Victoria Funes, the Honduran Central Bank manager in Choluteca.

Another kidnapping occurred July 6 in Tegucigalpa, where four armed men abducted Johana Lizeth Vigil.

The 22-year-old law student was driving to the Universidad Catolica when she was abducted, according to relatives, who have been contacted by the kidnappers about paying a ransom, a DGIC criminal investigations agency official said.

Vigil’s kidnapping raises to 15 the number of abductions in Honduras so far this year, with most of the crimes occurring in the northern part of the country.
