Elderly U.S. Couple Found Murdered in Jacó

Police arrived at an upscale apartment building in Costa Rica’s central Pacific coast town of Jacó to find Alfredo and Tania Espinoza dead, with their hands tied behind their backs and plastic bags over their heads.

The Cuban-American couple had been dead for over six hours, police said. Police had received a tip about a “strange situation” from a neighbor.

“We suspect the intruder was known to them,” said José Luis Sandoval, the local police chief. “We saw no signs of forced entry.”

Sandoval said the incident occurred early Friday morning. The case is under investigation.
