There and Back Again: Getting to Manuel Antonio

BY BUSTransportes Delio Morales (223-5567) is the only bus company that travels to Quepos and Manuel Antonio from San José. Direct bus leaves at 6 a.m., noon, 6 and 7:30 p.m. The trip takes approximately 3 hours, 30 minutes, and the ticket costs ¢2,140 ($4.50). The bus stop in San José is at the Coca-Cola station, Ca. 16, Av. 3/5. Regular buses leave at 6 (to Uvita and Bahía), 7 and 10 a.m., and 2, 3 (to Uvita and Bahía) 4, and 5 p.m. (Monday-Friday); the ticket is ¢1,670 ($3.50). On the return to San José, direct buses leave Manuel Antonio at 6 and 9:30 a.m., noon and 5 p.m. Collective buses leave the Quepos station at 5 and 8 a.m., and 2 and 4 p.m. Via Puriscal, buses leave Quepos at 5:30 a.m. and noon, and return at 4:30 a.m., 1 p.m. and, on Sundays only, 3 p.m.; this route takes 5 hours, and the ticket costs ¢1,670.BY AIRNature Air: According to reservations agent Ingrid Barquero, Nature Air offers two daily flights from San José to Manuel Antonio, at 9 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., leaving from the Tobías Bolaños Airport (232-2820) in the western district of Pavas. Return trips depart from the Quepos airport at 10:50 a.m. and 2:10 p.m. The aircraft is a Twin Otter with acapacity of 18 passengers. Tickets are $55 for foreigners and $40 for residents. For reservations, call 299-6000 or visit www.natureair.com.Sansa: Flights depart from the domestic terminal of Juan Santamaría International Airport in Alajuela, northwest of San José, at 6, 7:25, 8:50, 10:25 and 11:35 a.m., and 1:30 p.m. The return trip departs the Quepos airport at 6:35, 8, 9:25 and 11 a.m., and 12:10 and 2 p.m. Tickets are $49 for foreigners and $32 for residents. The aircraft is a Cessna with a capacity of 12 passengers.
