They Like Us! They Really Kinda Like Us!

Unlike in North America, where journalists rank somewhere between the pavement and the bottom of a car salesman’s shoe, the Costa Rican public has a fair amount of respect for us chroniclers of the news.

A CID-Gallup survey published in the daily La República in August found that journalists have the confidence of 50 percent of Ticos. Doctors hold the top spot, with a 72 percent public confidence level, followed by teachers (70 percent) and professors (63 percent).

At the bottom of the list? Moneylenders, who scored a mere 10 percent approval rating.
