Fralem’s Ape

This mural outside the Legislative Assembly in San José is part of a project called “De mi barrio a tu barrio.”

It was sponsored by the Goethe Institute, the Germany Embassy and the San José Municipality. Young artists were invited to paint on the wall, and the image displayed here caused a bit of a stir.

Some lawmakers complained that the suited ape resembled ex-President Oscar Arias. The artist, Fralem, denied any intended similarity.
