National and International Mail Prices Increase

Price increases intended to defray operating costs went into effect May 12 for postal services under the umbrella of Correos de Costa Rica S.A.

Rates increased for both national and international mail services.

For national mail, the new rates range from ¢115 (about $0.23) for mail weighing up to 20 grams, to ¢565 ($1.13) for mail from 501 grams to 1 kilogram.

The new rates for priority mail to North and South America range from ¢155 ($0.31) for letters up to 20 grams, to ¢410 ($0.82) for mail weighing 51-100 grams, plus ¢375 ($0.75) for each additional 100 grams. Sending postcards now costs ¢135 (about $0.27).

The increase was approved by the Public Services Regulatory Authority (ARESEP).
