Architectural Heritage Contest Under Way

Calling all old, run-down buildings with historical value and public access.

The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport’s Center for Cultural Heritage Research and Conservation (CICPC) is launching its annual search for historic buildings in need of restoration and conservation through a contest entitled “Save Our Architectural Heritage.”

The center is encouraging proposals for the restoration of any building in the country that has already been named an Architectural Historical Heritage site.

“The importance of this is that in a democratic and participatory manner, people evaluate where we are going to invest our economic resources for restoration, which aren’t much,” said the director of the CICPC, Sandra Quirós.

Despite a request for ¢300 million ($591,715) for the contest, the CICIPC received a budget of only ¢100 million ($197,238), which will be split between the two winners.

For information, contact the center at 223-2533 or 255-3523.
