Presidential Challenge Opens April 20

The first leg of the 10th Presidential Challenge of Central America begins April 20 in Playa Carrillo, on the northern Pacific coast, hosted by Hotel Guanamar. Tournament fishing is scheduled for April 21-23 – prime time for billfish in the waters off Carrillo.

The Presidential Challenge is a series of conservation-oriented events designed to promote sportfishing and raise awareness of the socioeconomic impact of the sport. The event in Carrillo will be followed later in the year by an event in Venezuela Oct. 12-14 and the concluding event in Guatemala Nov. 17-19.

Proceeds go toward the newly formed Costa Rica Sportfishing Association and the Florida-based Billfish Foundation to continue efforts to manage billfish in Costa Rica.

For more information, visit www.preschallenge.com or contact event coordinator Joan Vernon in Florida at (305) 361-9258 or pezvelajv@aol.com.
