Transitarte to flood San José with arts, culture

The 2012 Transitarte Summer Festival will bring an invasion of arts and culture to the capital’s downtown area throughout this weekend, the San José Municipality announced last week.

Some 210 shows featuring art, music, literature, theater, urban fashion and more will take over Parque Morazán, Parque Nacional, Parque España and other downtown public spaces March 2-4. All activities are free.

The festival’s inauguration is set for Friday starting at 7 p.m., with Costa Rican jazz trio Editus and Spanish flamenco musicians Paco Reyes y El Niño de la Leo performing in Parque Morazán, while funk rockers Malanga Beat give a concert at Parque Nacional.

Transitarte’s three main stages will be set up in Morazán, Nacional and España parks, but activities will also take place at the Atlantic train station in Barrio La California, on Ricardo Jiménez Boulevard (Calle 17), in front of the Supreme Elections Tribunal and on Paseo de las Damas (Avenida 3). Theater shows will be offered in a tent outside the National Library, on the north side of Parque Nacional. On Saturday and Sunday, a food fair will be set up in the Jardín de Paz, across from Parque Morazán.
