Costa Rican Sculpture Beautifies Mexican Avenue

A sculpture by renowned Costa Rican sculptor Edgar Zúñiga last month inaugurated a Mexico City beautification project entitled “Circuito de las Naciones” (“Circuit of Nations”), in which countries throughout the world are being invited to donate sculptures to adorn one of the city’s largest avenues.Costa Rica was the first country to respond to the Mexican invitation.“I am pleased that we responded to the call,” said Zúñiga, one of Central America’s most distinguished figures in contemporary sculpture. “(The project) was inaugurated because Costa Rica was the first to respond.”Entitled “Paradoja de una Realidad” (“Paradox of a Reality”), the sculpture is three meters tall and is made of stainless steel and enameled iron. According to Zúñiga, the piece attempts to express the paradox of technological advances going hand in hand with arrested social development in today’s reality. The sculpture can be seen on the avenue from the airport to the city in the Mexican capital.
