Welsh, Not to Be Outdone, Celebrate St. David’s Day

Admittedly the Welsh community is not extensive in Costa Rica, but following the success of the recent Scottish Burns’ Supper dinner-dance (TT, Feb.

1), plans are set to celebrate the national day of this U.K. sister nation with a party of food, recitals, music and fun.

Twentieth-century Welsh poet Dylan Thomas will be a pervading presence during the evening. His perhaps most famous work, “Under Milk Wood,” will be featured, with well-known thespians reciting excerpts.

The rescue of the Welsh language is a success story of global cultural revival. You won’t hear much during the evening, but event organizer Pamela Young will give you a cheery “croeso,” or welcome, as you arrive. It’s worth going just to hear how to pronounce “Mae Hen Wlad Fyn Hadau” (The Land of My Fathers), the Welsh national anthem.

Guests are invited to bring a boca for the buffet table, as no entrance is charged. To receive an invitation that will allow entry, contact Young at abfabpam@gmail.com or 220-4269 before March 10.
