An aircraft landing at Costa Rica Airport damaged the runway lighting system

The event occurred on runway 07. The aircraft completed its landing and parked without further issues. Airport operator AERIS responded immediately. Crews inspected the area, carried out cleaning, and placed backup lights. These steps support safe conditions and allow flights to continue.

The airport stays open and processes traffic under the adjusted setup. AERIS reported two commercial flights diverted. Those aircraft plan to land at the facility in the coming hours. One additional commercial flight faced a delay. Airlines determine diversions and schedule changes in cases like this.

Passengers reported impacts on travel plans. One person aboard a Volaris flight from San Salvador said the aircraft sat delayed for nearly two hours. The pilot informed those on board about repairs to the runway lights and pending authorization to depart. AERIS stated that an incident took place during the landing of an aircraft on runway 07, which caused the affectation to the illumination system. The involved aircraft parked without inconvenience, and the air terminal operates with normality.

Technical teams continue work to restore the system fully. No injuries took place.
