Tico Flower Growers Seek Buyers in U.S.

Ten Costa Rican flower growers seeking to expand their market by securing new buyers in the United States plan to attend two flower industry fairs this month, according to a statement from the Foreign Trade Promotion Office (PROCOMER).

A group of these growers plans to travel to Houston, Texas,March 12-13, where they will meet with the Allied Florists of Houston and discuss the possibility of exporting flowers to this city.

From there, the Tico flower growers plan to head south to Miami, Florida, where they will attend the World Floral Expo March 14 in hopes of gaining new clients.

The World Floral Expo last year brought together 278 flower importers from the United States and Canada and 153 growers from 19 countries.

In 2006, Costa Rica exported $35.8 million worth of flowers to the United States, an increase over the $31.4 million exported during 2005.
