100 Die of Violence, Accidents in February

After 100 deaths in February, the Red Cross is asking people to be careful. The only other months that reached or exceeded 100 were March and October of last year.

In February, fatalities from car accidents, including hit-and-runs, topped the list at 39. Fatal shootings and stabbings came in second at 25, and drownings rounded out the top three at 16.

San José province leads the country in violent deaths and the principal cause of death is car accidents.
