Three New Ambassadors Touch Down in San José

Costa Rica has formally accepted new ambassadors from France, Venezuela and Italy.Fabrice Delloye, the ex-husband of former hostage Ingrid Betancourt, will represent France. A career diplomat, Delloye has served as economic adviser for the French embassy in the Republic of Seychelles, a group of islands in the Indian Ocean, and as France’s cultural representative to Peru.

Representing Venezuela is Nelson Ramón Pineda, a former ambassador to Paraguay and former alternate representative to the Organization of American States.

The new Italian ambassador to Costa Rica is Diego Ungaro, who has previously been posted in Mozambique, Russia, Austria and Saudi Arabia.

A new Russian ambassador may also be on his way. President Dmitri Medvedev has tapped Vladimir Kurayev to replace Valeri Nikolayenko, Russia’s current envoy in San José, who is preparing for retirement, the news service RIA-Novosti reported.
