Rains in Northern Zone Damage Homes, Bridges

TORRENTIAL downpours in theNorthern Zone last week caused a massiveincrease in water levels in the riverLa Tigra, damaging roads, homes, andbridges in the area, located approximately100 kilometers northwest of San José.The waters cut off access to a bridgeover the river, isolating citizens of thecommunity of La Tigra for 36 hours latelast week. The bridge was re-opened July30 at 5 p.m., La Nación reported.According to San Miguel MayorAlfredo Córdoba, two bridges in the areacollapsed completely, but construction tore-build them was to begin this week.Several area residents saw their homesall but completely destroyed by thewaters.
