President Abel Pacheco wrapped up a visit to Taiwan this week with promises of investment from the Taiwanese government, then continued to Japan where he met with that country’s Emperor, Empress and Prime Minister Junchiro Koizumo as part of a summit with the heads of state of Japan and Central America.During the meeting, Prime Minister Koizumi signed the Declaration of Tokyo, promising aid to Central America, and a Plan of Action to carry out various projects within five to 10 years, according to a statement from Casa Presidencial.Costa Rica received promises of support for judicial reform and efforts to increase national production, among other projects.Pacheco also met with 30 business executives from companies such as Kenwood, Nissan and Toshiba, to whom he pitched the benefits of investing in Costa Rica.From Taiwan, Pacheco received pledges to aid with the construction of a highway to the Northern Zone (see separate story), a convention center and the Taiwanese Friendship Industrial Park, the statement said.While in Taiwan, the President also inaugurated and closed the 3rd Democratic Pacific Assembly, a summit of Pacific nations.
