Floods Delay Commuter Train Start

THE reopening of the highly anticipated commuter train between east and west San José has been delayed a week because of the heavy rains that inundated much of Costa Rica last weekend.Workers from the Costa Rican Railroad Institute (INCOFER) who had been preparing for the commuter train’s opening, originally scheduled for today, were temporarily transferred to make repairs on cargo train tracks damaged in this week’s flooding in coastal areas (see separate story), explained Public Works and Transport Minister Rándall Quirós.“We almost have everything ready; we just need to finish small details,’’ he told The Tico Times.By next week the platforms at the stops should be complete so that operation can begin, he said.
