Ombudsman May Take Education Ministry to Court

OMBUDSMAN José ManuelEchandi announced Dec. 17 he willappeal to the Constitutional Chamber ofthe Supreme Court (Sala IV) if theMinistry of Public Education maintainsits refusal to apply a curve to the resultsof a national math exam that threatens toprevent thousands of high-school studentsfrom graduating this year.Echandi said Ministry failed to useprevious years’ results to modify the examor the educational system.Last week, students, teachers andparents protested the exam results outsidethe ministry building in San José(TT, Dec. 17).
