President Pacheco Fills Cabinet Positions

PRESIDENT Abel Pacheco onFriday named Jorge Vargas as PlanningMinister – the only vacant minister positionon his Cabinet since an avalanche ofresignations earlier this month left fourminister positions open (TT, Sept. 10).Pacheco also designated Minister ofHealth Rocío Sáenz as coordinator of theSocial Affairs Council and new FinanceMinister Federico Carrillo as coordinatorof the Economic Council.Last week, Pacheco named Vice-President Lineth Saborío as PresidencyMinister, Labor Minister Ovidio Pachecoas Minister of Public Works andTransport and Fernando Trejos, presidentof the Mixed Institute for Social Aid(IMAS), as Labor Minister (TT, Sept. 17).The resignations followed a controversialagreement the government signedwith union leaders after days of civilunrest (TT, Sept. 3)
