Taiwan Donates $1.4 Million to Housing Ministry

The Taiwanese Embassy has donated $1.4 million to the Housing Ministry to “improve the quality of life” for 600 families in the shantytown of Rincón Grande in Pavas, west of San Jose, according to a statement from the Foreign Ministry.

Taiwanese Ambassador Tzu Dan Wu gave the hefty check to Housing Minister Fernando Zumbado during an Oct. 27 ceremony at the Foreign Ministry attended by Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) director Alfredo Ortuño. The bank, together with the Housing Ministry and Taiwanese Embassy, will be responsible for managing the funds.

Foreign Minister Bruno Stagno called the donation “one more example of the support Taiwan shows Costa Rica” and said it will help the Housing Ministry’s efforts to meet President Oscar Arias’ goal of reducing poverty.
