The ever-philanthropic Japanese Embassy in Costa Rica reached into its pockets again last month and signed a contract to donate $90,000 for the purchase of hospital equipment for the canton of Pérez Zeledón, in the Southern Zone.
The money will be donated to the Asociación Pro Hospital Pérez Zeledón, which will use it to purchase a mechanical ventilator (which helps ill or premature babies breathe), a defibrillator monitor and a portable ultrasound, according to a Japanese Embassy statement. The equipment will be donated to the Emergency Services section of the Hospital Dr. Escalante Padilla, in San Isidro de El General. The hospital serves the 600,000 people who live in Pérez Zeledón and the cantons of the Brunca Region, the statement said.
The president of the Asociación Pro Hospital Pérez Zeledón, Ileana Hidalgo, signed the donation contract with the Japanese Ambassador Yoshihiko Sumi, and thanked the embassy for showing “the interest and commitment to make the Costa Rican homeland a better homeland,” the statement said.
