Agriculture Ministry Seizes Questionable Chinese Garlic

Mountains of garlic making their way into Costa Rica from China via Panama were seized by agriculture authorities Nov. 11 because of concerns they’re infected with insects and diseases that could harm other crops.

The Ministry of Agriculture (MAG) stopped a truck illegally bringing 5,000 kilograms of garlic into the country through the southern border crossing of Paso Canoas, according to a statement from the ministry.

Officials had been investigating the garlic for several days after receiving complaints from consumers.
