Lufthansa cancels Costa Rica flights ahead of strike

Traveling on Lufthansa to or from Costa Rica in the coming days? You should double-check your flight status.

The German airline has cancelled 1,300 flights ahead of a two-day strike from cabin crew. About 180,000 passengers worldwide will be affected by the cancellations, the airline said in a statement.

That includes passengers flying to and from Costa Rica on the German flag-carrier.

Thursday’s nonstop flight from Frankfurt to Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO) near San José has been cancelled, according to the airline.

Consequently, the return flight on that aircraft — scheduled to depart Costa Rica on Thursday night and arrive in Germany on Friday afternoon — has also been cancelled.

The route was scheduled to be operated by an Airbus A340-300 aircraft that can seat up to 279 passengers.

Lufthansa is promising to release a “special flight schedule” to reduce the impact on passengers and is offering free rebooking even for passengers whose flights have not been cancelled.

The strike is scheduled for Nov. 7-8.
