25 Years of Glory: Instituto Costarricense Pro Música Coral to celebrate quarter century

At Costa Rica’s National Theater on May 25-26, 25 Años de Gloria (25 Years of Glory) will celebrate a quarter century of the Instituto Costarricense Pro Música Coral.

The Instituto Costarricense Pro Música Coral was originally written into a course at the University of California, Los Angeles by Darlene Palmer. It culminated into a program she called the “Búsqueda de una Costa Rica que Cante Más” or “In Search of a Costa Rica that Sings More.”

Twenty-five years, a few awards won by el Café Chorale and several participations in international choral competitions later, the Instituto Costarricense Pro Música Coral has seen widespread success.

A wide variety of festivities will take place to mark the anniversary, among them workshops and master classes for Costa Rican singers.

25 Años de Gloria will culminate with two concerts composed of coral, orchestral, and solo performances  at the National Theater. The golden centerpiece of the celebration will be guest performances by the University of Louisville Sinfonietta led by Director Kimcherie Lloyd.

The performances will also mark the beginning of an exchange between Lloyd and the National University’s (UNA) School of Music.

Concert schedule:

  • National Theater  – Saturday, May 25 — 7 p.m.
  • National Theater  – Sunday, May 26 — 5 p.m.
