President Alvarado visiting tech hubs in United States seeking investments in Costa Rica

The president of Costa Rica, Carlos Alvarado, will travel to technology centers on the west coast of the United States on Sunday, where he will seek investments from companies in the sector, the government announced Tuesday.

During the visit, which will last until March 15, Alvarado will visit Seattle, San Francisco and Silicon Valley, where he will meet with representatives of technology companies and coffee buyers. He will also give a lecture at Stanford University on Costa Rica’s newly launched plan to decarbonize the economy.

“Throughout the next week, I will be traveling to California and Seattle to meet with several very important companies that already have big operations in Costa Rica or that want to come to the country,” said Alvarado in a statement from Casa Presidencial. “The objective will be the attraction of investment, welfare and employment to the country.

The agenda includes meetings with Amazon, Pop Digital, MicaSense, Microsoft, HP, Intel and Google to discuss the expansion of their operations in Costa Rica.

In San Francisco, he will visit the Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution at the World Economic Forum. In San Jose, Calif., he will visit the research center of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), according to Casa Presidencial.
