Planning Minister tospeak to professional women’s group

Planning Minister Laura Alfaro will give a presentation to the Professional Women’s Network tomorrow morning at the Clarion Amón Plaza Hotel in San José.

Alfaro left her post at the Harvard Business School to accept a position as President Laura Chinchilla’s youngest cabinet member in May. She is a published author and was named a Young Global Leader in 2008 by the World Economic Forum.

Alfaro will take attendees behind the scenes of Costa Rica’s government as it strives to become the first developed country in Latin America, and will discuss key points affecting women professionals in Costa Rica.

The Professional Women’s Network is a subset of the Women’s Club of Costa Rica aimed at encouraging professional growth through networking. Formed in July, the group already has more than 100 members, from lawyers, teachers, artists and architects to doctors, entrepreneurs, nonprofit heads and government leaders, with an expat-Costa Rican ratio of 1-to-1.

Both members and interested guests are welcome to attend tomorrow’s presentation, which will take place from 10 a.m. to noon at the Clarion Amón Plaza Hotel in Barrio Amón (Av. 11, Ca. 3 bis). For more information about the event or the group, e-mail Stacey Auch at barriobird@gmail.com
