New exhibit unveils history of National Theater

Take a closer look at the history of one of Costa Rica’s most famous architectural jewels, the National Theater, at the upcoming exposition “The Dome Over Time.”

The exhibit takes place in the Enrique Echandi Art Gallery, inside the theater, and it consists of 80 photographs showing visitors the evolution of the building, as well as the information about its restoration.

“By including technical, historical, and administrative facts, visitors can have an idea of the cultural implications these restoration works mean,” said Adriana Collado, the National Theater’s director.

The photographs intend to provide an intellectual, yet entertaining approach to the history of the theater.

“People will see what the landscape looked like when the Cultural Square was not even built, and instead cornfields were the common sight,” said William Monge, conservation coordinator for the National Theater.

The exhibit will open this coming Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Admission is free.  Call 2233-2716 for more information.
