Atenas-Orotina route on the Caldera Highway will remain closed

The stretch on the Caldera Highway that goes between Atenas to Orotina will remain closed indefinitely, according to the construction company Autopistas del Sol.
Originally it was reported in mid-February that construction would close the route until the beginning of March, but the reopening continues to be delayed.

The 11-kilometer stretch has undergone several repairs since it opened last year. After opening on Jan. 27, 2010, mudslides and falling rocks have been responsible for several injuries and a death on the highway that leads to Caldera on the Pacific Coast.

Drivers will be re-routed to the winding, former passage between Atenas and Orotina that goes through Monte de Aguacate.
