Fire destroys two floors of luxury hotel in Golfito

A fire destroyed part of Castillo de Pavones Hotel, located in the Southern Zone’s Pacific province of Puntarenas, on Sunday afternoon. Nobody was hurt in the fire that began on the hotel’s top floor.

The hotel is located in a hard-to-reach area of Puntarenas. Firefighters needed more more than 90 minutes to arrive at the place. Damages occurred to the fourth and fifth floors of the building. Smoke and water also caused minor harm to the second and third floors.

The cause of the fire remains unknown. The Tico Times tried to contact representatives at the hotel, but phone calls to the hotel were unanswered.

“The hotel can continue its operations on the first three floors,” said Hector Chaves, director of the National Firemen Corps. “It was a good thing the fire started on the roof, otherwise the whole place could have been destroyed.”

Castillo de Pavones is both a beach and mountain resort that offers horseback riding, rafting and sports fishing expeditions.
