Heavy rains to continue throughout the weekend

The National Meteorology Institute (IMN) predicts heavy rains will continue throughout the country for most of the weekend. In response to the heavy precipitation Friday, the National Emergency Commission issued a yellow alert for the Pacific and Central Valley regions. Yellow alert is the second level of the commission’s warnings.

“The regions of the central and south Pacific will be the places will the most intense rainfall and an estimated 50 to 70 millimeters will fall in a time span of six hours,” the IMN said in a press release Friday afternoon. “The northern Pacific will experience intense rainfall throughout the evening and the Central Valley will see persistent rains during the night, as well as heavy fog.”

The IMN predicted light rains for the Caribbean region. Threats of a possible tropical depression are also forming in the Caribbean and will be monitored throughout the weekend.

In case of emergency, contact the Red Cross of Costa Rica at 2528-0007, 2542-5065 or 8334-3875.
