Central American countries promote multi-destination tourism

Government agencies, tourism boards and private companies from all seven countries in Central America have launched a joint partnership to promote multi-destination travel in the region.

The plan’s main strategy is a promotion campaign dubbed “Centroamérica es tuya, disfrútala” (Central America is yours, enjoy it) offering travel packages at special rates.

Eight packages are being promoted on social media and on the campaign’s website. Tours include destinations in two, three or even all seven countries.

Options include offers to enjoy, for example, ecotourism in Costa Rica, culture in Guatemala and beach destinations along the Caribbean coastline in Honduras.

Costa Rican Tourism Minister Mauricio Ventura said Friday during the official presentation that the strategy aims at making Central America more attractive for travelers from all over the world, as well as regional tourists.

The website also offers general information about each country, travel recommendations and links to authorized tour operators.

The president of Costa Rica’s National Tourism Chamber, Pablo Abarca, said the campaign is also a great option for promoting regional tourism.

He noted that local entrepreneurs are confident the joint effort can improve visitation and consolidate the multi-destination market.

The Costa Rican Tourism Board reported Friday that the tourism industry in 2015 generated $10.9 billion for the region, representing a 4.7 percent increase over 2014.
