Spirit Airlines to fly Houston-Costa Rica starting May 28

Spirit Airlines plans to offer four new weekly flights between Houston and Costa Rica starting May 28, the U.S. discount carrier announced Thursday.

Flights will run between Costa Rica’s Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO) and Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH).

The carrier’s public relations manager, Irisaida Méndez, said the airline’s rates are, on average, up to 40 percent lower than those of other companies.

Spirit launched daily flights to Costa Rica from Fort Lauderdale, Florida in April 2007 and the company opened a reservations center here in 2009.
