Date for Guatemala presidential elections set

Guatemalans will elect their new president on Sept. 11. Now that the election date is set, candidates can officially launch their campaigns. Retired Gen. Otto Pérez Molina, presumptive candidate of the right-wing Patriot Party, currently leads opinion polls by a large margin. His biggest challenge will come from Sandra Torres, wife of current President Alvaro Colom.
