Zarzuela “Luisa Fernanda” Coming to San José
THE liveliness and color of the Spanish zarzuela will be brought to San José’s Melico Salazar Theater in seven performances of “Luisa Fernanda,” from Aug. 25 to Sept. 1.The zarzuela is a type of Spanish musical theater combining dialogue, music and dance. Set in 1868 in revolutionary Madrid, “Luisa Fernanda” is considered one of the most representative works of the genre.The international cast includes Spanish baritone Andrés del Pino, Argentinean mezzo-soprano María Luján Mirabelli and Spanish tenor César de Frutos. Maestro Javier Loioia Orbe is the musical director, and Argentine Constantino Juri is in charge of set direction.Tickets cost ¢7,000-16,000 ($14.60- 33.40) and are available at the Melico Salazar Theater box office (257-6005).
