Magnitude-4.6 earthquake shakes El Salvador coast

SAN SALVADOR – A moderate earthquake of magnitude-4.6 and an epicenter in the Pacific Ocean shookEl Salvador Thursday without causing damage or casualties, the National Service of Territorial Studies (SNET) reported.

The quake, according to SNET, was recorded by seismographs at 11:12a.m. local time and its epicenter was located 45 kilometers south of Jiquilisco Bay in Usulután, about 135 km southeast of the capital.

With a focal depth of 31.6 km, the earthquake was caused by movement of the Cocos and Caribbean plates in the Pacific Ocean, SNET reported.
