Costa Rican hurdler qualifies for 2012 Olympics

Costa Rican athlete Sharolyn Scott is headed to the 2012 Olympics after qualifying Monday in 400-meter-hurdle competition in Rehlingen, Germany. Scott took the gold medal in the event and set a new Central American record with a time of 56:19. She is the ninth Costa Rican to represent the country in London’s Summer Olympics next July.

Scott is ranked 29th in the world in 400-meter hurdles.

Other Costa Ricans headed to London are: Gabriela Traña and Cesar Lizano in the marathon competition, Nery Brenes in the 400-meter dash, Leonardo Chacón in the triathlon, Heiner Oviedo in taekwondo, Andrey Amador in road cycling, Osman Murillo in judo, and either Andrey Fonseca or Paolo Montoya in mountain biking.
