South Korea becomes an observer of Central American integration

SAN SALVADOR – South Korea on Monday joined as an observer of the Central American Integration System (SICA), becoming the seventh country outside the region to agree to observer status.

The document that formalizes the admission of South Korea was signed in San Salvador by SICA Secretary General Juan Daniel Alemán and South Korean Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Kim Sung-han.

In addition to the Asian country, SICA observers outside the region include Spain, Taiwan, Germany, Italy, Japan and Australia. Countries with regional observer status include Argentina, Brazil, Chile, United States, Mexico and Peru.

SICA is an organization that manages the integration process of Central American countries, plus the Dominican Republic.
