Costa Rica’s Chinchilla postpones announcement of new public works minister

President Laura Chinchilla said Tuesday that there will be no announcement yet of a replacement public works and transport minister, although she was expected to name a new minister this week.

“We are still evaluating names, but we have not yet made a decision. I think it will take at least another week for the official announcement of who will take over,” Communications Minister Francisco Chacón said in a statement.

Rodrigo Rivera will continue to serve on an interim basis after former minister Luis Llach stepped down after only three months in office due to health problems.

Llach was appointed after the resignation of former minister Francisco Jiménez last May, following a scandal involving irregularities in the construction of a road along the border with Nicaragua.
