Costa Rica meets inflation goal for 2012

Accumulated inflation in Costa Rica during 2012 was 4.55 percent, which means the country achieved its goal of keeping inflation between 4 and 6 percent, the National Statistics and Census Institute (INEC) reported in a release Thursday.

The INEC report also stated that the figure is lower than the 4.74 percent recorded in 2011, and is the second lowest in the last decade, behind 4.05  percent accumulated in 2009.

During 2012 goods and services that most influenced the indicator were electricity, water, housing rentals, taxis and bus fares, gasoline and private education, according to INEC.

Last December the inflation increase was 0.28 percent, which is also lower than the same month of 2011, when it reached 0.92 percent.
