Seven tremors recorded in Cartago in the last two days

The University of Costa Rica’s National Seismological Network (RSN) reported that seven tremors shook communities at El Guarco Valley, south of the province of Cartago, in the last two days.

RSN systems registered four tremors Tuesday and three more early Wednesday morning.

Earthquakes on Tuesday occurred between 5 and 8 a.m., with Richter scale magnitudes ranging from 2.5-3.1.

On Wednesday, the first tremor was recorded at 12:35 a.m. with a magnitude of 2.7, and five minutes later, a 3.0 shook again the region.

The strongest tremor was felt at 3:02 a.m. with a magnitude of 3.5.

No major incidents or damage have been reported, according to emergency response agencies.

The epicenters were located near the Aguacaliente Fault, the same responsible for the earthquake that nearly destroyed Cartago on May 4, 1910.

El Guarco Valley and the Tobosi community are under constant monitoring by experts from the RSN, the Volcanological and Seismological Observatory of Costa Rica and the National Emergency Commission.
