Montezuma festival to show 100 films over 10 days

The Costa Rica International Film Festival, formerly known as the Montezuma International Film Festival, will take place Nov. 11-20 in the beach community of Montezuma, on the southern Nicoya Peninsula.

To showcase the more than 100 feature, documentary and short films accepted for this year’s festival, the historically four-day event has been extended to 10 days. Screening venues will include El Sano Banano Village Hotel, Ylang Ylang Beach Resort, Puggo’s Restaurant and Chico’s Bar.

On the program are films from all over the world, including the U.S., Australia, Japan, Germany, Peru and Portugal. Costa Rica will be represented by the short film “Sombras nada más”(“No More Shadows”) by Max Valverde, the feature film “Donde duerme el horror” (“The Accursed”) by Ramiro and Adrián García-Bogliano, and the documentary short “Bugs in the Backyard” by Harley Toberman.

Some of the film directors will be in Montezuma for question-and-answer sessions Nov. 18-20. The event will also include cocktail hours, dinners and concerts.

When not watching films, attendees can fill their time surfing, snorkeling, hiking or exploring nearby islands in the popular tourist destination.
