Wanted: bilingual professionals in Costa Rica

U.S. companies will open a total of 450 new jobs in Costa Rica in the coming months.

On a recent business-attraction tour in the U.S., President Luis Guillermo Solís got confirmation from three firms that they intend to hire, while another one announced the expansion of its Costa Rica operation in a public statement.

UST Global, a California-based IT service company, said Monday that it intends to hire 100 professionals in information technology and telecommunications by the end of the year.

The company’s director of business development, Marco Cervantes, said the firm will be seeking bilingual professionals, including mobile application developers (both for Android and iOS systems), project managers, business analysts, .NET developers, scrum masters and software testers.

“Costa Rica keeps emerging as a high added-value center for UST Global’s operations and that allows us to continue attracting the most important national and international brands in the country and the region,” Cervantes said.

Those interested in applying for a job should send their résumés by email to: ust@totembrice.com.

The jobs announced by UST Global come on top of 350 new jobs that President Solís confirmed during the first week of a business tour in the U.S.

Last Friday in Charlotte, North Carolina, Precision Concepts and Dole told Solís they would expand their operations in Costa Rica, hiring a total of 200 new employees.

Dole confirmed plans to create 150 new jobs to expand its shared-services center to focus attention on the company’s European operations. The company’s Costa Rica center currently serves customers in the U.S. and Latin America.

Dole will be recruiting bilingual professionals in administration, finance, accounting and information technology, among others. Those interested should send their résumés to: marisol.jimenez@dole.com.

Precision Concepts, a medical device assembly company, will increase its staff in the areas of quality management, engineering and production supervision. The hiring will bring its total job force in Costa Rica to 200 workers.

Job seekers must submit their applications through the company’s website.

On Monday President Solís held a bilateral meeting in Atlanta, Georgia with representatives of Bridgestone, who said they plan to expand their shared-services center in Costa Rica.

The company will hire 150 people over the next 18 months in its business administration, industrial engineering, economics, international trade, statistics, finance and accounting departments.

Bridgestone’s recruiters will be looking for bilingual professionals with an advanced command of English or Portuguese. Interested candidates can submit their applications by email to: reclutamientossc@la-bridgestone.com.

Foreign Trade Minister Alexander Mora Delgado said Monday that he was very pleased with the results of the U.S. trip so far.

“Executives with whom we have met have mostly highlighted the quality and talent of their Costa Rican human resources and consider them the main factor facilitating a sustained growth in their operations,” he said.

Solís, Costa Rican business leaders, and officials from the Costa Rican Investment Promotion Agency, the Foreign Trade Ministry and Foreign Ministry will continue their business-attraction mission through May 23. In the coming days, they will hold meetings with potential investors in Austin, Texas and Chicago, Illinois.
