World leader in wireless industry opens $6 million operation in Costa Rica

Brightstar Corp., the world’s largest wireless services distributor, on Monday opened a new shared services center in Costa Rica, from which the company will offer technical support for their operations in several countries.

The new facilities are located in Barreal, Heredia, and staff will provide support in finance, accounting, information technology and other key business services for the company’s locations in the Americas and other countries, Brightstar Latin America President Pablo Suárez said at an opening ceremony.

“Costa Rica is a world class location for multinational companies and is ideal for our operations in Latin America. We have been very impressed with the talent of the local workforce and the business-friendly environment since we started recruiting at the Costa Rican Investment Promotion Agency (CINDE) job fair in February,” Service Center Director Allan Acosta said.

The local operation is a $6 million investment and opened with 70 employees. The company already announced in coming months they will hire up to 80 more workers. For a list of job openings, see: www.brightstarcareers.com.

At the opening ceremony, Foreign Trade Minister Alexander Mora said, “Brightstar’s operation very well represents the type of investment that the country seeks: intensive use of technology and quality.” Mora said the goal for next year is to attract at least two new companies per month.

According to CINDE, exports of computing and information services increased from 1.3 percent of the gross domestic product in 1999 to 5.8 percent in 2013, totaling $2.8 billion.

Brightstar has a presence in more than 50 countries and offers products and services in over 100. Currently it serves more than 200 mobile operators, 40,000 stores and 15,000 industrial customers.
