Krishna Das to fill La Aduana with devotional chanting

Krishna Das, a renowned U.S. kirtan vocalist, will perform for the first time in Costa Rica Feb. 26 at San José’s La Aduana Arts and Technology Center.

Kirtan, or call-and-response chanting, is performed in Indian devotional traditions, including devotional yoga practice. Kirtan with Krishna Das consists of chanting with musical accompaniment, as well as meditation instruction and spiritual readings and teachings.

Born Jeffrey Kagel, Krishna Das studied in India with Hindu guru Neem Karoli Baba, known to followers as Maharaj-ji. He has released several chant CDs, including “Pilgrim Heart” and “Heart as Wide as the World,” and is the author of “Chants of a Lifetime,” a collection of stories, teachings and insights.

The Feb. 26 performance starts at 8 p.m. at the La Aduana center in Barrio Escalante (Calle 25, between Avenidas 7 and 9). Tickets cost $30 in advance or $40 at the door. Advance tickets may be purchased at Krama Yoga in the western suburb of Guachipelín de Escazú (2215-3535, info@kramayoga.com).

Prior to his performance in San José, Krishna Das will lead a weeklong retreat of chanting and devotional practice at Blue Spirit Retreat in Nosara, on the northern Pacific coast. All-inclusive packages range from $1,195 to $2,350 per person. For more information, visit www.eomega.org.
