Perhaps Megadeth truly believes peace sells.
The thrash metal standard bearers – best known for their albums “Peace Sells… but Who’s Buying?” and “Rust in Peace” – will play the army-less country of Costa Rica for the second year in a row.
Megadeth, along with popular Finnish death metal group Children of Bodom, will make Costa Rica the only Central American stop on its tour of Latin America, with a concert at Rosabal Cordero Stadium in Heredia, north of San José. The Costa Rica show is currently the last in the band’s tour, which begins in early November in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Megadeth guitarist and vocalist Dave Mustaine founded the band in 1983, after he was kicked out of Metallica. He played Costa Rica last summer at the Autódromo La Guácima in Alajuela, northwest of San José. This year, the U.S.-based group will be playing in support of its 13th album, called “TH1RT3EN,” which comes out Nov. 1.
Both Megadeth and Children of Bodom (“Needled 24/7”) will play 1.5-hour sets. Tickets go on sale Saturday at Insomnio and Vértigo stores and other selected Central Valley locations. Prices range ₡25,000-₡40,000 ($50-$80). The show is being produced by Blackline Productions (2240-7186).
Brazilian metal band Sepultura will perform Oct. 29 at Club La Azotea in La Uruca, in northwestern San José. Sepultura rose to fame in the early 1990s through heavy metal songs such as “Refuse/Resist,” “Ratamahatta,” and “Roots Bloody Roots,” infused with Brazilian musical rhythms and lyrics about slum life and other issues pertinent to Brazil. The group’s founders, brothers Max and Igor Cavalera, are no longer members of the band. Tickets for the concert cost $60 and are available at Insomnio stores.
The metal scene in Costa Rica continues to draw major names, including Judas Priest, Helloween and Slayer.
