No-Kill Animal Shelter Hosts Fundraiser

A fundraising, get-to-know-each-other party to help residents of the Animales de Asís animal shelter in Monte de la Cruz, Heredia, north of the capital, was held July 17 at Café Valendra in San José’s historic Barrio Amón neighborhood.

Founder and director of the no-kill shelter Karin Hoad has more than 60 dogs and some cats that had been abandoned or mistreated. Some were rescued following the earthquake that hit Cinchona Jan. 8. Some have disabilities and need special care. All are available for adoption.

Karin’s co-host was Yan Alexander Aguilar, a national award-winning artist whose clever and colorful caricatures of Don Quixote and Sancho in a Costa Rican setting were on display, with part of the sales proceeds going to help the shelter.

Animales de Asís holds adoptions every Sunday morning at La Sabana Park on San José’s west side. For more information about the shelter, visit www.animalesdeasis.com.
